Family Program: Families in Focus

Family Program

"Dear Thomas,

You are proof that "when the student is ready, the teacher appears." Your teaching is masterful.

You gave me an understanding of honesty I'd never experienced; thoughtful, careful, compassionate, authentic sharing that will impact every important relationship I ever enjoy.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart."

“I learned how to look at my son’s addiction in a new way. I learned some valuable tools to help me learn to be healthy first before I can help support his efforts to be healthy.”

“This [Families in Focus] has been the most enlightening experience I have encountered since y son’s addiction started. Thanks!!!”

Family Treatment Program Overview

Focus Healthcare of Tennessee is pleased to partner with Thomas and Thomas Consulting Group, LLC for a monthly two and a half day family support and treatment program. Individuals who have family involvement in treatment have better success with sobriety. Part of what families will learn in this process is that addiction is a boundary failure, which is why treatment offers so much hope. Boundary systems can be learned and improved.

Workshop Results

Following this workshop, participants will be able to do the following: educate family members on the nature of the addictive process, understand how the disease impacts families, engage family members in interactive conjoint group process with patients, teach healthy communication skills, and educate family members about boundaries, family roles, and codependency issues.

Addiction Recovery

Families often ask us for statistics on addiction recovery. Our answer is this: Recovery rate is 100% when the treatment plan is followed 100%. Family involvement is part of the treatment plan.

In a large-scale study published on October 4 in the journal Archives of General Psychiatry, teenagers with the eating disorder showed better recovery after receiving family therapy. Read the article To overcome teen eating disorders, get the family involved, published by The Independent, Wednesday, 6 October 2010.
